Futures

What are possible futures for the population or place? What do you envision as the preferred future?

  • School gardens could be implemented in Mililani High School and Middle School.

  • Ideally, students will pass on their knowledge to their parents and encourage their parents to buy locally grown food and engage in sustainable food practices.

  • We envision that more Mililani residents will partake in home gardening and that schools will take steps towards more sustainable food sources.

What is the probable future if the situation continues?

  • We predict that the the Mililani Elementary Schools will enjoy the gardens and be able to utilize them to their full potential.

  • Mililani Middle School will see how much of a success gardens in schools are and plan to make one of their own.

  • The Aina in Schools program of the Kokua Hawaii Foundation will continue to expand until the majority of schools in Hawaii are involved with them. Elementary, middle, and high school students across the island will benefit from garden-based learning.

  • As the cost of living and food increases, the gardens will definitely appeal to the public as a cheaper way to make food. Furthermore, population increases will further the demand for food.

What preferred future do you envision? What do you and others want to have happen? Can you develop a plan that leads in the direction of your preferred  future?

  • We envision a happy and healthy community after we are finished with our project.

  • We want to see Mililani blossom into a fully self-sustainable environment and see the future generations take care of our home and implement gardens into schools outside of Mililani too.

  • The children will learn the importance of food sustainability and be able to transfer their knowledge to the real world. As the demand for food grows and food becomes even more expensive, we hope that kids who have worked in the gardens will be inspired to take political actions, find solutions to food problems, or enter careers that improve food sustainability.

  • The plan that we are trying to develop that leads us in the direction of our preferred future consists of many sub-goals that each community can have so that in the end they are able to harvest food from their gardens and utilize them within the school.
